Swiftwater Paddle Boat Handling Course
This basic level course is know as the Swiftwater Paddle boat Handing Course and has been designed to train students to operate a small inflatable boat on moving water. This level of training is particularly suitable for many groups where they need to be able to use a paddle a boat on easy but moving water to deep enough to wade in. By paddling a boat the rescuers have the advantage that they do not have to enter the water, and can avoid contamination from flood water. This course is run over two days, with mostly practical work on a large volume grade 1 & 2 whitewater river.
Certified by Rescue 3 International.
Course duration: 2 Days
Participants must have a current SRT certification and be over the age of 18.
Course Aims:
After this course students will be able to use simple techniques to safely deploy a inflatable boat in flooded areas to rescue people as well as deploy rescuers to otherwise inaccessible places.
Students will also be able to make a dynamic risk assessment of whether a paddle boat is a suitable rescue platform in flood rescue and swiftwater rescue situations. As well as being aware of the dangers of using a boat in a flood.
Personal Equipment required:
- Buoyancy Aid / PFD / Lifejacket
- Whitewater Helmet
- Thermal protection - Wet suit / Dry suit
- Suitable footwear - Wetsuit booties / Shoes and wetsuit socks
- Personal rescue equipment if available - Knife, Whistle, Karabiners, Throwbag
Personal equipment hire is not included in the course fee.
Personal Equipment can be hired from us for a small charge when booked in advance.
